Laptop memory
These are some important considerations about laptop memory:
● If your hard drive is your computer's "long-term memory," then the is its "short-term memory." RAM stores information on your computer, but when shutting down the computer, everything that is stored on RAM is lost. Words that you type or a computer game that you are playing are stored in RAM unless you specifically request for the information to be moved onto your hard drive (by saving it). If it's your habit to simultaneously type a paper, play solitaire, browse for films online, and e-mail your friends, you'll need lots of RAM. (The more applications you run at once, the more RAM you use.)
● If you plan to use your laptop to drive external monitors for presentations it is very important for your laptop to have 32MB or 64MB of or VRAM. Make sure the memory is dedicated for graphic use, rather than pulled From main memory; this is sometimes referred to as a universal (UMA) or shared (SMA) memory architecture, or as dynamic video memory technology. Gamers should look for advanced 3D graphics chips, such as ATI's Mobility Radeon or NVidia's GeForce2Go, and 64MB to 128MB of dedicated graphics memory. |
